Of Miki and Melons
So, Fujimoto Miki’s getting a solo single. Oh great! I’m happy for Fujimoto-san! What will this mean for GAM? Some thought they‘d be back while I highly doubt it. With either artist somewhat getting back into their solo careers, I highly doubt GAM’s coming back. (Then again, I considered them dead when they went “on hiatus” and Ayaya started releasing solo singles (even if she did when the group was around). Oh how the idol world was trés cruelle on the wota in 2007, or just the Hell(o)! Project).
Hopefully, the single (titled “Okitegami”) would (read: will) get better treatment than Melon Kinenbi’s latest “single.” (Seriously, they are charismatic with fans but how they’re being managed nowadays is not “kirei.” They’re still together why?). It’s a miracle they’ve survived all of this... promotion (only someone really obsessed would want Melons on their car). Well, there’s one thing to look forward to in the “Charisma Kirei” single: the entirely new b-side song! (It’s an embarrassment enough that they’re practically re-releasing their entire catalog and doing so with “questionable” (for lack of a better word) PVs (I didn’t finish watching the “Onegai Miwaku no Target” PV because it was getting too weird for my taste) but if the b-side was another cover, it’s another nail in their coffin).
Now, “Charisma Kirei” isn’t that bad a song (in fact, I like it. Reminds me of the Spice Girls (whom I had the pleasure of seeing in concert on Monday) for some reason). The PV is okay but I’ve heard many a comment saying it used footage from live concerts (which only works in some instances. I would say that would be a big no-no but the video for Linkin Park’s soon-to-be-latest single “Given Up” will be a “live” video so I have no ammunition). Actually, the Melons are lucky that I haven’t seen proper live footage because this PV looks somewhat like a regular PV to me. You lucked out, ladies, especially considering I’m somewhat getting back into you with thanks to this song (and the rest of Melon Juice bit-by-bit).
I last paid close attention to the Melons back in the summer of 2004 (back when “Namida no Taiyo” was the latest thing). Afterwards, I was somewhat too lazy to follow up the singles (in terms of listening) so I’m somewhat behind but I did pay attention to what was released next. I was somewhat alarmed that they released only one single in 2006 (an indies single at that) but they’re returned with a somewhat constant pattern in 2007 (even with the “Gangsta Kinenbi” PV. Seriously, I thought it was a big joke some mean-spirited wota concocted. Good song, bad video).
Wow… this was actually a better blog entry than I thought. More planned out, more thoughtful, I’m impressed. Okay, I focused a bit more on the Melons than I was supposed to (which will be snarkified upon the International Wota review) but I'm still impressed at the writing of this post compared to recent entries! Pat yourself on the back, Magi-Kat, for you have actually made a legitimate blog entry you can be proud of *pats herself on the back* (and a belated happy birthday to Mike Shinoda-san + Happy Valentine's Day, minasan!).
